Beef Cattle

  • The carcass quality is greatly improved.
  • In our experience, feeding green feed daily at a rate of 3% to 3.5% of the animal’s body weight and then supplementing it with good-quality roughage will yield the best results.
  • Because green feed has a higher digestibility, the conversion from green feed to meat is markedly higher. The average daily weight gains are increased by 1600g per day in beef feedlots (Leitch, 1939).
  • Grain-fed cattle also have a higher weight gain than paddock-fed cattle, but to obtain the same weight gains in grain-fed cattle as in green feed-fed cattle, large quantities of grains must be fed, which can cause metabolic and digestive problems, as mentioned earlier. Also, most of the grain is not utilised and pass through the animal undigested.
